Nephrology is the medical specialty relating to the kidneys. The first office appointment, or consultation, will usually be requested by your primary doctor. The consultation includes a thorough history and may be preceded by a referral for diagnostic testing. The nephrologist will spend as much time with you as necessary to answer all your questions and will write a comprehensive report which will be sent to your primary doctor.
